How to clean mesh and baffle filters in natural ways

For cleaning the chimney filters, first of all remove the filters from the hood. Mesh filters are aluminum thread made sheets. You can clean your filters in many different ways. Using chemicals, harsh soap or detergents will discolor the aluminum material. It’s better to clean in a natural way. I feel baffle filters are more easy to clean than the mesh filters. Here we will discuss the all possible natural ways.

Clean chimney with dishwashing liquid

Firstly apply some dishwashing liquid (ex: Vim Lemon Dishwash Gel) to the filters. Take hot boiling water into a bucket or tub anything in which can immerse your filters and clean it. Be sure that the filters are completely immersed in the water. Now leave it for 1 to 2 hours. If you have a steel container in which you can immerse the filters then better to boil it for half an hour. Boiling will effectivly, fastly removes grease than immerse in hot water. After removing it from water scrub it with non-abrasive scrubber like ‘Scotch-Brite Non Scratch Sponge’

This method requires baking soda, salt and vinegar. Take the filters into the tub and add hot boiling water, 2-3 tablespoon of baking soda, 2-3 tablespoon of salt and 2 cups of vinegar to it. Let it soak for 1 to 2 hours. For more better results instead of soaking it into hot water, boil it along with all the above mentioned ingredients.

Clean chimney with paint thinner

Paint thinner is also a good choice to clean the oily and greasy materials. If you don’t have paint thinner you can use nail polish remover too. This is a quick option to clean your chimney filters as they don’t need too much time. Just soak a small piece of cloth in the thinner and scrub it on the filters. After cleaning the filters completely, wash it with water and dry it in sunlight.

Sprinkle the caustic soda on the filters and now pour the hot boiling water in the tray and maintain distance with the tray the fumes released from the composite may harm. Rest it for 2-3 hours. Make sure you wear your hand gloves while removing the filters from the tray. Wash the filters with clean water, let it dry and replace it in the chimney hood.
